If you buy in bulk you can cut the cost of your pet’s favourite food by up to 50%. It might seem obvious, but the bigger the container (or bag) of food, the cheaper it will be. Retailers profit from people not planning ahead and smaller weights or single servings will cost loads more than the 20kg bag lurking on the bottom shelf. Most major supermarkets now show price per 100g for most goods, and the same should be true for pet food.
According to a recent report in the Guardian, if you shop at Sainsbury’s then, for example, a 1kg bag of Iams cat food costs £4.98, while the 3kg bag retails for £12.98 - when you work it out, that equates to a saving of almost £2 over buying three of the 1kg bags.
